The University of Ghana has launched a new food bank initiative aimed at providing relief to students facing financial challenges. As part of this support programme, each student will receive a 5kg bag of rice, marking a significant shift from earlier efforts that only targeted needy individuals.

The initiative highlights the university’s growing commitment to addressing food insecurity across its student population, ensuring that every student—regardless of financial status—receives some form of assistance.

This move comes in response to rising living costs and the increasing awareness of hardship among university students. Previously, the Dean of Student Affairs had spearheaded similar efforts on a smaller scale, distributing food items to select students through the food bank project.

By expanding this to include the entire student body, the university is taking a bold and inclusive step to promote student welfare and reduce the burden of daily living expenses on campus.
