Saudi Arabia Confirms Alcohol Ban for 2034 World Cup

The 2034 FIFA World Cup, which Saudi Arabia will host, will be completely alcohol-free, the country has stated. Saudi Arabia will enforce its stringent ban on alcohol throughout the competition, according to Prince Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud, the country's ambassador to the UK. This implies that only soft drinks will be offered at official locations and that alcohol will not be served in stadiums, hotels, or fan areas. "Everyone has their own culture," the ambassador said, emphasizing that although guests are welcome, they must respect Saudi cultural customs. We don't want to alter our culture for someone else, but we are glad to make accommodations for others within its bounds."
International football fans have responded to this decision, especially those who are used to drinking during games. Some fans have voiced their displeasure and questioned why going to the event with these limitations would be appealing. Prince Khalid replied, "You can have a lot of fun without drinking. It's not absolutely required. In response to questions about LGBTQ+ participants, he said, "We will welcome everyone in Saudi." It is a global event rather than a Saudi one.
In contrast to Qatar's strategy during the 2022 competition, where alcohol was served in specific fan areas and hotels, the 2034 World Cup will not allow alcohol. Saudi Arabia's position demonstrates its dedication to upholding its religious and cultural customs despite hosting a world event. This action has also rekindled debates about how to balance honoring the customs of the host country with meeting the expectations of foreign spectators at important athletic events.
