President Mahama bans government officials from traveling in first class while on official business.

Government appointees will not be permitted to travel in first class, according to President John Mahama's announcement.

"My administration will be characterized by modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people," he said. On Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Jubilee House, he said this while ministers were being sworn in.

The President disclosed that in order to cut government spending, he has directed the Chief of Staff to formally inform Ministries and government appointees about an immediate restriction on non-essential travel.

Any important or necessary travel must be approved by the Office of the Chief of Staff beforehand, and it must be done in modesty rather than first class, he stated. He also emphasized that his administration will not tolerate conceit or pomposity.

"The Ghanaians who elected us own the resources you will be using," he said, cautioning that they should not be squandered on luxury or extravagance.
