Over 3,690 Nigerians living in the United States are faced with Deportation

According to recent reports, the U.S. government is stepping up its efforts to combat illegal immigration, and as a result, about 3,690 Nigerians are in danger of being deported. In the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) document "Noncitizens on the ICE Non-Detained Docket with Final Orders of Removal by Country of Citizenship," Nigeria is ranked second among African nations, after Somalia, with 4,090 deported citizens. Ghana is third with 3,228 individuals.
This move is consistent with the tougher immigration policies of the U.S. government, which include actions like denying children of unauthorized immigrants birthright citizenship. According to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), an inter-agency committee has been formed to oversee the situation, and the Nigerian Federal Government has prepared to accept deported nationals. The Office of the National Security Adviser, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs make up this committee.
