OSP Charges Six for Payroll Fraud and Corruption in Tamale

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has taken legal action against six individuals at the High Court in Tamale over alleged payroll fraud and corruption. Among the accused is Yakubu Tahidu, a former teacher at Balogu M/A JHS, who purportedly continued to receive his salary despite leaving his teaching position for a new role at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC). The case, referred to the OSP by National Security, highlights ongoing concerns about financial mismanagement within the public sector.

The remaining five accused—Abdulai Abukari Sadic, Sammy Suuk, Mohammed Yusif Jay, Stafford Korletey Azudey-Barres, and Osman Issahaku—are alleged to have played roles in either facilitating or failing to prevent the fraudulent salary payments. The charges brought against them include 17 counts related to corruption and financial losses inflicted on the state. Authorities believe these fraudulent transactions resulted in substantial monetary damage, further stressing the need for stricter oversight in government payroll systems.

The OSP has reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting public resources and holding individuals accountable for financial misconduct. This case serves as another significant step in the fight against corruption, ensuring that state funds are safeguarded from exploitation. As investigations continue, the prosecution aims to reinforce transparency and prevent future occurrences of such fraudulent activities within public institutions.
