Ordinary Passport Booklet Price to Be Reduced to GH¢350 – Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Government of Ghana has announced a 30% reduction in the cost of the 32-page ordinary passport booklet, lowering the fee from GH¢500 to GH¢350. This initiative, revealed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is aimed at making passports more affordable for Ghanaians while maintaining security standards. The decision is part of a broader effort to enhance public service delivery and address concerns about the high cost of obtaining travel documents.

To implement this reduction, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration will submit an amendment to the Fees and Charges Regulations for parliamentary approval. The move follows public outcry over a previous fee hike in April 2024, which had increased passport application costs under L.I. 2481. In addition to the reduced fees, the government is introducing a 24-hour expedited service, including a door-to-door passport delivery option. This initiative is expected to improve accessibility and streamline the passport issuance process, reducing delays and inefficiencies.

This adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to easing financial pressures on citizens and improving administrative efficiency. By making passports more affordable, the Ministry aims to encourage more Ghanaians to obtain travel documents for business, education, and personal purposes. The decision also underscores the government's responsiveness to public concerns and its dedication to reforming essential services to meet the needs of the population.
