Someone in jail

A 32-year-old Nigerian man, Mohammed Ogbona, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison with hard labour by the Tema District Court for attempting to illegally obtain a Ghanaian passport.

Ogbona, who also went by the name Mohammed Alhassan, was arrested on June 16, 2025, at the Passport Application Centre in Tema.

He had allegedly used false information in a bid to secure the Ghanaian travel document, raising concerns about identity fraud and border security.

At the time of his arrest, Ogbona was working at a cement factory in Tema. His actions were discovered during a verification process, which revealed he was not a Ghanaian citizen.

The court found him guilty of both attempting to acquire a passport through unlawful means and falsifying his identity.

His conviction underscores Ghana's firm stance on protecting the integrity of its national documents and ensuring that only eligible individuals are granted access to them.
