Nationwide Power Outage Scheduled Sunday Due to ENI Gas Maintenance – Energy Minister

Ghana is set to experience a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, 2025, due to scheduled maintenance work by the country’s major gas supplier, ENI. This was confirmed by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, who explained that ENI will temporarily shut its gas supply valves to allow for rehabilitation activities. These works are aimed at expanding the gas production capacity from its current output to 270 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), a move the Minister says will help stabilize the country’s energy supply in the long term.
Although the shutdown will lead to temporary power interruptions across the country, the Minister assured that the outage will only last a few hours. He added that technical experts had advised against switching to liquid fuel plants for such a short period, citing logistical limitations. The government views this development as a necessary short-term inconvenience for long-term energy efficiency and reliability.
