Gov’t Converts National Cathedral Project into Cultural Convention Centre

The Ghanaian government has revealed plans to repurpose the controversial and unfinished National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC). This new facility is set to serve as the central hub for the nation’s fast-growing creative economy and will also support Ghana’s broader goals in cultural diplomacy.

Outlined under the “SH0W24” initiative—part of the new 24-hour economy strategy focusing on culture, creative arts, and tourism—the NCCC will be developed in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat. Once completed, the center is projected to become Africa’s premier venue for global events, including film festivals, international exhibitions, trade fairs, and cultural summits.
