NACOC Seizes $1.7M Worth of Smuggled Gold, Hands It Over to Ghana Gold Board

In a brief but symbolic ceremony at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra, officials from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) handed over 17 gleaming gold bars—valued at a whopping $1.7 million—to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). This handover wasn’t just about precious metal; it was a firm statement against illegal mining and smuggling.

The gold bars were intercepted at the Paga Border Post in the Upper East Region, where alert NACOC officers stopped two Burkinabe nationals attempting to sneak them out of the country. The suspects are now facing charges related to illegal transportation and gold dealings. Authorities say this is part of a broader push to protect Ghana’s natural resources and keep the country's gold industry clean and accountable.
