Residents of Anum in the Assin North District of the Central Region woke up to shocking news on Sunday after a family dispute turned violent.

A 35-year-old woman, Faustina Ackom, was allegedly shot by her husband, 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, during a heated argument over suspected infidelity.

Faustina, a mother of four, is currently fighting for her life at St. Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu after sustaining gunshot wounds to her left arm and breast.

According to neighbours, trouble began around 12:30 am when Bukari reportedly confronted his wife over phone numbers he had found on her phone. Suspecting she was being unfaithful, he woke her up for questioning. The argument quickly escalated, and when Faustina attempted to escape, Bukari allegedly pulled a gun and shot her.

Her screams pierced the quiet night, drawing neighbours who rushed to help. “We heard her shouting for help and ran to the house,” one resident, Lydia Yeboah, recounted.

The suspect, however, fled immediately after the attack. Residents believe he may have escaped to nearby towns including Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.

Police from the Assin Fosu Divisional Command have since visited Faustina at the hospital to gather information as investigations continue.

This incident has left many in the community in shock, especially since the couple, married for ten years, are known to have four young children together.
