A 63-year-old man in Hong Kong has been arrested for allegedly contaminating bottled soft drinks with urine in several supermarkets across Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, and Wan Chai. The case surfaced after a nine-year-old boy fell ill, prompting an investigation that linked the suspect, Lo Kim-ngai, to tainted bottles of Coca-Cola Plus and 7 Up.

Authorities believe the act may have been motivated by revenge following an unpleasant encounter with supermarket staff. Surveillance footage and evidence found in his home—including clothing and a backpack—led to his arrest on August 9, 2025.

Lo has been charged with administering a noxious substance with intent to injure, a crime punishable by up to three years in prison. He appeared in Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on August 12 wearing a T-shirt with the slogan “Enjoy Coca-Cola” and was denied bail, with his next court date set for October 21.

Swire Coca-Cola Hong Kong, the distributor, assured the public that only a small number of bottles were affected and have been destroyed, while police have urged consumers to check beverage packaging carefully for signs of tampering.
