Gunmen Kill Anambra Farmer After Collecting ₦15 Million Ransom — Police Vow Justice

A chilling tragedy has rocked the Nimo community in Anambra State after a respected farmer and community leader, High Chief Ogbuefi Ozo Nnanyelugo (popularly known as Gbafankiti na Nimo), was abducted by gunmen and later found dead despite his family paying a ₦15 million ransom. The assailants reportedly kidnapped him on June 19, 2025, from his farmland and returned his lifeless body, bearing deep machete cuts, to the same location on June 23. The gruesome act has drawn outrage from the community, with many condemning the senseless killing as barbaric and inhumane.

In response, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are in full swing. Officers have cordoned off the crime scene and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. The murder has once again highlighted the growing insecurity in parts of Southeast Nigeria, prompting renewed calls for better protection of rural dwellers and stronger action against kidnapping gangs.
