Goaso Traditional Council has Banned Valentine's Day Celebrations

Public Valentine's Day celebrations in the Goaso traditional area are prohibited, according to the Goaso Traditional Council. This choice is in line with the forthcoming one-week memorial service for the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, who died in December 2024 following a protracted hospitalization. The Council has made it clear that during this time of sorrow, events like parties, noisy celebrations, and hotel gatherings are completely prohibited. They have suggested that if people want to celebrate Valentine's Day, they should do so in private and in silence at home. Additionally, the Council has issued a warning that serious consequences will follow any infractions of these guidelines.

As the community commemorates the late chief's legacy, this action seeks to promote harmony and respect among its members. The spokeswoman for the Council emphasized the significance of communal mourning, saying that it would be improper for certain members of the community to celebrate while others remain in mourning. It is expected that community people, dignitaries, and traditional leaders will gather for the one-week celebration to honor Nana Kwasi Bosomprah and consider his contributions to the Goaso Traditional Area.
