Gifty Oware to be declared wanted and assets frozen - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has taken decisive action against individuals implicated in the National Service Scheme (NSS) ghost names scandal. In his recent State of the Nation Address, he directed security agencies to declare wanted those who have fled the country and to freeze their assets. This move is part of efforts to ensure accountability for the large-scale misappropriation of public funds linked to fraudulent payroll schemes within the NSS.
The scandal involves the insertion of non-existent names into the NSS payroll, leading to substantial financial losses. Investigative authorities have already arrested some key figures, including Yaw Danso, an accountant at the National Service Authority (NSA), and Kwaku Ohene Gyan, the former Deputy Director of Operations. However, Gifty Oware-Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the NSA, remains at large. Security agencies are intensifying efforts to track her down and bring her to justice.
President Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption, stressing that those responsible for looting state funds must face the full force of the law. Freezing the assets of the accused is aimed at preventing further dissipation of stolen public funds. Anti-corruption advocates and citizens alike have welcomed this firm stance, hoping it marks a new era of accountability and transparency in Ghana’s public institutions.
