Ghana Not on U.S. Travel Ban List – Ablakwa Assures

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has addressed rising concerns over reports that the United States may include Ghana in an upcoming travel ban. Responding to U.S. President Donald Trump's June 14 announcement about possible entry restrictions on citizens from 36 additional countries, Ablakwa stated that Ghana has not received any official notice from the U.S. government.
The Washington Post had reported that a memo from the U.S. State Department listed Ghana among the countries potentially affected by new immigration enforcement measures. However, speaking in Parliament on June 19, Minister Ablakwa emphasized that “there is no cause for alarm,” as Ghana remains uninformed through official diplomatic channels. “We have not been formally notified that Ghana is to be placed on any travel ban list,” he assured lawmakers.
He further revealed that Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has engaged U.S. officials to seek clarity on the issue. Ablakwa reaffirmed the government's dedication to safeguarding the travel rights of Ghanaians and stated that the situation is being monitored closely. “We have asked for assurances that these reports have no substance, and so far, there is no reason for panic,” he said.
