NYA Records Massive Interest as 150,000 Youth Enroll in National Apprenticeship Programme

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has announced a significant milestone in its National Apprenticeship Programme, with over 150,000 Ghanaians enrolling—far exceeding the initial target of 10,000 for the first phase. The overwhelming interest, according to NYA, is a clear indication of how eager the youth are to embrace skills development opportunities.
During a stakeholder engagement with master craftsmen on Tuesday, June 24, Deputy CEO of NYA, Jacob Adongo, revealed in an interview with Citi News that applicants are currently going through registration and assessment procedures. He added that actual training will begin in July 2025, with the goal of equipping participants with practical skills in various apprenticeship fields to promote employment and self-reliance.
Mr. Adongo praised the resilience of Ghanaian youth, encouraging them to fully embrace the opportunity. He urged them to stay focused, reduce harmful habits such as drug and alcohol abuse, and commit themselves to learning. As part of the programme, participants will receive stipends for transportation and be provided with start-up kits after training to help them establish themselves in their chosen vocations.
