GACL Wins Court Battle to Reclaim Over 16 Acres of Land from McDan Group

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has successfully reclaimed over 16 acres of valuable land near the Kotoka International Airport following a High Court ruling in its favour. The land—leased to subsidiaries of the McDan Group, namely McDan Shipping and Airport Logistics Limited since 2012—was repossessed after the court found the companies in breach of their lease agreements.
The judgment, issued on May 6, 2025, gave GACL full rights to the land, which spans approximately 10.63 acres and 5.66 acres respectively, located close to Action Chapel International.
The court ordered the companies to pay $26,296 in overdue rent and awarded GACL GH¢50,000 in legal costs. GACL hailed the decision as a victory for accountability and the protection of state assets. The company’s legal team and Managing Director, Mrs.
Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, were praised for their efforts in the legal process. This repossession comes on the heels of a separate dispute in December 2024, when McDan Aviation’s operations at Terminal 1 were suspended due to outstanding debts. While those debts were later cleared, the land conflict remained unresolved until the recent court ruling.
