Court clears Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy as nurse faces trial over Mohbad's death

A Lagos Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, has cleared Nigerian singer Naira Marley, music promoter Sam Larry, and Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Primeboy, of any involvement in the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad. The court’s decision followed legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which found no evidence linking the three individuals to Mohbad’s demise. This ruling brings a significant twist to the high-profile case that has captivated public attention since Mohbad's passing on September 12, 2023. Initially, Naira Marley and Sam Larry were accused of having a hand in the singer's death, a claim that fueled public outrage and online protests. However, with this legal exoneration, they are no longer considered suspects in the case.
While Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy have been cleared, the DPP has recommended the prosecution of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe and another individual, Ayobami Sadiq, for reckless and negligent acts. Their charges stem from allegations that improper medical care may have contributed to Mohbad's untimely death. According to the legal advice, Ogedengbe administered an injection to the late singer, which may have led to fatal complications. The authorities believe that her actions were negligent and in violation of medical protocols, warranting further legal proceedings. As a result, the case will now focus on whether medical malpractice played a role in the tragic incident.
Mohbad’s death at the age of 27 triggered widespread mourning and demands for justice across Nigeria and beyond. Many fans and celebrities called for thorough investigations, with some initially blaming industry figures like Naira Marley due to the artist’s past conflicts with his former signee. However, with this court ruling, the narrative surrounding Mohbad’s passing has shifted towards medical negligence rather than external foul play. As the trial against Ogedengbe and Sadiq progresses, the public remains eager for answers, seeking closure on a case that has left an indelible mark on the Nigerian music industry.
