National Cathedral Board Rejects Plans to Repurpose Project

The Board of Trustees overseeing Ghana’s National Cathedral project has firmly rejected recent proposals suggesting the site be converted into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC). According to the Board, no official government communication has been received regarding any change in the purpose of the project. They emphasized that the land legally belongs to the National Cathedral of Ghana and that the current architectural designs—including plans for a Bible museum, Biblical garden, prayer rooms, a library, and conference halls—are tailored specifically for the original vision of the Cathedral.
In a statement following an emergency meeting, the Board stressed that the Cathedral has not been abandoned but merely paused due to financial challenges. They revealed that only about 8% of construction has been completed and attributed the delay to political and economic factors. However, an independent audit by Deloitte confirmed that all public funds allocated to the project were properly accounted for. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to seeing the Cathedral completed and called for collaborative, depoliticized efforts from government, churches, and civil society to help fund and finish the national project.
