Barcelona are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey on a free transfer following his expected departure from Arsenal at the end of June. The 32-year-old has turned down a contract renewal from the Gunners and is eager for a return to La Liga, where he previously impressed at Atlético Madrid. Keen to remain in top-level European football, Partey sees Barcelona as a fitting next destination.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claims negotiations between the Catalan club and Partey’s representatives have advanced, with Barcelona prioritising his acquisition after securing Joan Garcia and pushing for deals involving Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji. Sporting director Deco is reportedly championing Partey’s move, highlighting his physicality, tactical awareness, and Champions League experience. The free transfer aligns with Barça’s current budget-conscious approach, and although other European and Middle Eastern clubs are interested, Barcelona appear to be leading the race. A formal offer is expected shortly, with the club aiming to finalise the signing before pre-season preparations begin.
