Abronye Warns Police Officers After Ablekuma North Rerun: “Retire Before NPP Returns”

The Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, known popularly as Abronye, has issued a provocative statement following the chaotic scenes during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun. In his view, the police officers deployed to maintain order failed in their duties and must prepare for consequences should the NPP return to power. He warned that those officers should consider early retirement, hinting at possible reprisals due to what he described as their disgraceful performance during the election.
This comment follows incidents of violence at some polling stations, notably involving the alleged assault of former Minister Hawa Koomson. The rerun, held on July 11, ended with a narrow win for the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn. While Abronye’s remarks have resonated with some supporters frustrated by the outcome, critics and observers have condemned the tone of his statement, viewing it as a veiled threat against law enforcement officers and a potential affront to democratic principles
